8 Most Criminally Unloved Slasher Movie Sequels
7. Friday The 13th: Part 3
In part three, we head back to Crystal Lake for a third round of Voorhees’s teen-slaying violence, and this time around, the camera crew bought along a new state-of-the-art 3D camera to work with. Sadly, it’s because of these cinematic attempts that part three doesn’t hold up as well as it should against the others.
However, what you have is still a wholly loveable addition to the franchise in its own right - and arguably, there’s one big reason why it should be considered the most important sequel of them all. Why? Well, it’s the first time we see Jason ditch the one-eyed potato sack and instead pick up his hockey mask. Still to this day, the producers of this sequel argue about whose idea this was, and considering how ionic the mask has become, it really is no surprise why they all want to claim ownership of such a great decision.
As part of the biggest, most exciting slasher franchise of all time, Friday the 13th’s third instalment is truly where it all begins. And as one of the most punchy, action-packed movies in the series, part three is the start of what you’d recognise as a bad-ass Jason Voorhees movie.
The distracting 3D angles of the original footage may now be shamefully dated, but overall, it’s still an entertaining fun-time that introduces Jason's playful tongue-in-cheek humour that kept devoted fans coming back time and time again.
