8 Most Disappointing Movie Sequels & Remakes Of 2021

7. A Quiet Place Part 2

This wasn't a bad film. But this isn't a list of "worst sequels", this is "most disappointing", and this definitely falls into that category. A Quiet Place is one of the most unique horror films of the last few years, so you'd be forgiven for having high hopes for the sequel.

The first one worked partly because of the sound design. Similar to John Cage's 4'33", the ambient noise of the audience changes the film, changes how the audience reacts, making everybody too scared to make any noise. Suddenly someone trying to silently eat popcorn became tense, someone shifting in their seat became a jump scare. It was a unique experience and one I'm not sure can be replicated.

For this sequel? You don’t get that same tension for one simple reason: it uses music. We're used to music being played over dramatic scenes in movies, but it feels wrong in a film like this. It's like the sequel is scared of letting itself be silent, which considering that’s what made the first one stand out, is a weird choice. It would be like making Saw II and having it be completely without traps, or making a Blair Witch sequel and not having it be found footage (good thing nobody is stupid enough to do that, right?)

So yeah, not necessarily a bad film, but it's definitely disappointing.
