8 Most Disappointing Movie Sequels & Remakes Of 2021

6. Home Sweet Home Alone

Home Sweet Home Alone
Disney

Was this really asked for? Home Alone is a franchise people liked, but only the originals. If somebody ever said "oh they're okay but they don't really get GREAT until the third one" then I think you're legally allowed to throw paint at them.

Still, there was some hope for this weird follow up. It's directed by one of the writers of Borat so at the very least it should be unique. The cast is top quality, Rob Delaney and Aisling Bea have been in some excellent sitcoms over the last few years, Ellie Kemper is always loveable, and it features brief appearances by such experienced comedic performers as Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell, and Jim Rash.

So how did this end up so bad? Partly, the writers made the villains sympathetic. Kemper and Delaney's characters aren't trying to steal money or diamonds or anything big like that. All they want is a doll that they believe has been stolen from them. They're just getting something back because if they don't they will lose their home, resulting in them and their family being homeless for Christmas.

It's a truly tragic tale that makes them incredibly sympathetic. So when they end up being set on fire or having billiard balls launched at their heads, it's not really funny. "hahaha, those characters who are trying to not be homeless are now in immense pain which will require years of physical therapy to get past. They're going to be bankrupted by medical bills. This is HILARIOUS!"
