6. Slither (2006)
Slither is a delight to those who stumble upon it on several levels. It pleases those who simply enjoy being frightened and made to squirm, while it does entertain and indisputably makes you cackle habitually, particularly at its disgusting imagery. The film was James Gunns (Super, Guardians of the Galaxy) directorial debut, Starring the delightful Elizabeth Banks, who we know from Judd Apatows comedy films and Nathan Fillion, who youll recognise from Joss Whedons untimely deceased show,
Firefly. The film is reminiscent of those classic 1950s sci-fi B-movies both in its style and plot. A malevolent alien parasite contained in a meteorite crashes in a South Carolina town one evening and infects a local man. The parasite maliciously absorbs the mans consciousness and with its control over his body, begins to morph into a repulsive and hideous tentacular slug creature. The depiction of this transformation in Slither is one of cult-films most graphic depiction of body horror and the third act is sickening and nasty.
