8 Most Underrated James Bond Films

1. For Your Eyes Only

For Your Eyes Only is a divisive film and it's bloody hard to see why. This movie has so much going for it: it's got Roger Moore's best performance as Bond, a refreshingly grounded and tense story, ace action sequences, a fantastic Bond Girl (Carole Bouquet) and perhaps best of all, it's a fabulous course-correct after the stupidity of Moonraker.

It goes back to basics with a more serious, realistic Cold War thriller plot and that's exactly what the franchise needed. The tone can be a bit inconsistent but the way in which the film has this down-to-earth feel while still offering the bombastic action sequences fans were looking for makes it an exceptionally satisfying 007 adventure.

Of course, there are missteps, such as the godawful pre-credits scene, a cringe-worthy supporting Bond Girl (Lynn-Holly Johnson) and a weak villain (Julian Glover) but on the whole, this is an absolutely excellent Bond film and, aside from The Spy Who Loved Me, the best of a turbulent era in the franchise.

So, why doesn't this get enough credit? After all, the tonal inconsistency isn't that bad and while some viewers may have been wishing for something more OTT, after the hideous excesses of Moonraker it's difficult to see why anyone would want more of that.

Whatever the reasons, For Your Eyes Only just doesn't get enough love and due to just how good it really is, it's easily the most underrated Bond film to date.
