8 Movie Characters With Completely Irrational Fears

5. Indiana Jones Hates Snakes, Doesn't Mind Nazi-Killing Ghosts

Everybody loves Indiana Jones, not in spite of his flaws but precisely because he has them: this is no unbreakable action hero, but a hard-fightin', hard-lovin' archaelogist who still pisses his pants at the sight of a snake. To Indy, snakes are the work of the devil - he hasn't been a fan since he fell into a train carriage full of them as a teenager, back when he was still played by River Phoenix. That would clearly be enough to terrify anyone into a phobia - but you have to ask why it's snakes, and not all the petrifying supernatural stuff discovered on his travels that Indiana is most afraid of. As far as anyone can tell, Indy didn't develop a paralysing fear of Nazi-melting ghost-demons following the events of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Neither does Indiana flinch in that film when he's chased by a boulder, accosted by tarantulas and discovers two exploring companions killed, all within the opening minutes. On that particular jaunt, all is apparently well for Indy - until he finds a snake in the getaway plane, and finally he loses his mind with fear.
