8 Movie Heroes You Didn’t Realise Were Actually The Sidekicks

7. Kick-Ass – Kick-Ass Is The Sidekick Of Hit-Girl

Kick-Ass tells the story of a comic book fan who decides to become a real life superhero. The trouble is he’s not much good at it, and gets beaten up a lot. While Kick-Ass is the main character, in terms of the plot he actually functions as reluctant sidekick to Hit-Girl and Big Daddy.

Hit-Girl and her father are chasing after the mobster who caused her mother’s death, and Kick-Ass just gets stuck in the middle. Hit-Girl has the revenge motive and is far more capable in a fight. In fact, she saves his life a few times and leads the charge in the finale when Kick-Ass wusses out.

He does eventually show up at the last minute to save the day, but only after she’s done most of the work. The story of Kick-Ass is ultimately about a teenager learning the hard way how to live up to the ideals of a superhero, and ironically being mentored by a psychotic eleven year old girl along the way. The sequel did make Kick-Ass a more proactive hero, but Hit-Girl was still the cooler character.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
