8 Movie Heroes You Didn’t Realise Were Actually The Sidekicks
5. Blade: Trinity – Blade Is The Sidekick To The Nightstalkers
The behind the scenes tales on Blade: Trinity are much more enjoyable than the end result, which was a pretty lame final instalment of the series. Co-star Patton Oswalt has told stories of Wesley Snipes staying in character the whole time, hanging out in his trailer smoking weed and only appearing for close-ups. Apparently he even tried to choke out the director. So it’s little wonder he seems remote in Trinity, where Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel appear as his new sidekicks The Nightstalkers.
If it seems like Reynolds really starts to dominate the film once he arrives, that’s because there was no other choice. Snipes was angry about the introduction of the new characters and would only put in the bare minimum of effort (his stunt double is said to have done most of the actual work). Blade barely speaks or even seems interested in what's happening, so Reynolds steps in to give the audience a character they could follow.
And all credit to Reynolds for trying to inject some life into it, but it’s weird to see the series title character essentially relegated to a guest star role in his own movie.
