7. Dolls - Seed of Chucky
Killer dolls have never been a huge staple in films. Aside from the Childs Play series there has been the Puppetmaster series, Dead Silence and few others to boot. And unfortunately for the plastic nightmares, Childs Play has slowly upped the self-parody to a level of overindulgence. Sure, Childs Play had a bit of a weird concept (a dying murderer uses a voodoo curse to trap his soul in a doll and continue his rampage) but four sequels later we were treated to Seed of Chucky, which had a full family of dolls and an exasperating genre change from dark humoured horror to failed camp comedy. Killer Dolls soon became a niche little laughing stock in the movie monster world, their only decent appearance since being a split second stabbing sequence in Cabin in the Woods. Who Can Save Them?
Well, the next sequel to Childs Play might just provide the time reversal needed to take the monsters back to their heyday. Curse of Chucky has promised to write off the events of the last two films, an act I usually dont like movies doing but one which might be for the best in this case. There could be another way around it relatively easily, but we dont want to take any chances with Glen(da) looming around. Curse of Chucky promises to return to the very dark comedic moments and gory deaths of the Childs Play films, something the also upcoming remake of the original film probably wont be able to emulate. Im holding high hopes for the new sequel because theres been a lot of freedom given to its creators; what they do with it will be exciting to see.
