8 Movie Villains Whose Logic Makes No Sense

6. Speed 2 - Geiger Takes A Hostage Here, For No Reason At All

It was always going to be a challenge finding a villain to match the insanity Dennis Hopper brought to the first Speed, and while Cruise Control might be a worse than worse-off sequel, the casting of Willem Dafoe as Geiger was definitely a thumbs-up.

Still following the beat of a villain with too many ideas and a motive for greed and vengeance; the character of Geiger is a maddening one as his motivations, methods and executions are all things that needs more elaboration.

His main intention in the film is to steal an assortment of diamonds to compensate his own personal shortcomings - apparently applying leeches to your body WON'T keep you alive forever?

Geiger's plan goes splendidly, and after snatching the diamonds he's about to get away, but for some he reason takes Annie (Sandra Bullock) hostage as part of his getaway. Considering from the moment Geiger stuffs Annie into the seaplane, she's nothing but a nuisance to him, it's any wonder why he grabbed her in the first place.

For as long as the movie is concerned, Annie and Geiger have not interacted with each other in a hostile context. Geiger's kidnapping of Annie appears less to do with his plan to escape, and more of a direct middle finger to Jason Patrick's character (who cares what his name is?). Had Geiger just boarded the seaplane, he would have probably made it out. But no, he had to take the most important person in Jason Patrick's life.

But that fifteen year old girl wasn't around, so he had to settle for Patrick's second most important person.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
