8 Movies That Changed Hugely From The Trailers

5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Ditches Several Huge Subplots

The Trailer: The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features a number of intriguing scenes, such as Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) talking to his ailing father Norman (Chris Cooper) about Peter (Andrew Garfield), Peter and Harry talking about Oscorp having Peter under surveillance (ending with Harry's memorable line, "isn't that the question of the day?"), a bunch of other dialogue scenes between both Peter and Harry and Gwen, and a shot where Green Goblin comes across Felicia Hardy (Felicity Jones). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8MykckiOiU The Final Movie: These scenes are all missing from the final movie, and given how important some of them seem (especially the conversations between Harry, his father and Peter), it's hard not to think that their omission significantly changed the trajectory of the movie. Director Marc Webb stated that most of these scenes were cut for pacing and length reasons (the film is already a bloated 142 minutes without them), but also that some of the dialogues were simply recorded for publicity purposes (such as Norman saying, "We have big plans for you, Peter Parker"), which seems nothing if not grossly manipulative. Whether the film would have been better or worse without these numerous scenes restored, their exclusion altered the final product in a subtle but substantial way.
