8 Movies You Wrongly Thought Were Sequels

5. Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch

Just as the Nightmare On Elm Street movies are defined by the central appearance of Freddy Krueger, Saw movies involve Jigsaw (or his apprentices) and Fast & Furious movies have to include Dom Toretto's gang, the Halloween franchise is inseparable from Michael Myers.

The Shatner-mask wearing oddball killer is synonymous with the brand - hell, he is the brand - and his studio found that out the hard way when they had the audacity to make a "sequel" without him with Season Of The Witch. On reflection, though there's a 3 in the title there and it was released as part of the Halloween series, it's nowhere near being a sequel to the first two movies.

The main draw character is gone and the mythology focuses on something else entirely as if the studio were trying to diversify and explore anthology movies. And while it wasn't enough to kill the franchise, all the claim that it's a sequel did was make it look inferior by proximity - like a weird concept album released after two runaway hits.
