8 Myths About Classic Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Are False

4. The Lion King

Lion KingThe Myth: You can see the word €˜SEX€™ in the clouds. Not only are the early Disney animations chock full of racial stereotypes (this is actually true, although not as extreme as is often claimed), more recent efforts have been taking a leaf out of Tyler Durden€™s book and inserting subliminal sexual elements into their films and publicity. The Little Mermaid penis-castle is a well documented €˜mistake€™, but there€™s no denying that the petals Simba knocks say €˜SEX€™. The Shocking Truth: It€™s clearly €˜SFX€™. As you can see, it's hard to make it out in the film without being particularly eagle-eyed, but seeing it as a washed out image makes it clear it says SFX (as in special effects). In making the F, the letters do go through a moment of looking like an E, but it's so short no one but a really sheltering parent would say it was the overall intention. It€™s obviously a lot of fun to search for moments of child friendly Disney betraying its morals, but unlike the alleged Jessica Rabbit upskirt shot, there€™s no substance to the claims here. In a case of the gullible Internet not checking facts similar to Back To The Future, a cheeky little in-joke from the Special Effects department became a worldwide slur.
