8 Myths About Classic Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Are False

5. Predator

PredatorThe Myth: It was Jean-Claude Van Damme in the suit. Back in 1987, twenty five years before The Expendables 2, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme faced off in another (better) explosive action spectacle. Everyone knows that Schwarzenegger was the big star, but it is less known that Van Damme was the man behind the vagina face behind the metal mask. He wasn't a big name in film by this point, having notched up just a couple of minor roles, so him playing a faceless monster is certainly within the realms of believability. The Shocking Truth: He wasn€™t. At least not in the one in the film. Van Damme was initially cast as the Predator, but little of his work appears in the film. He lacked the physical bulk to work thematically against Schwarzenegger and struggled to perform his martial arts in the sweaty suit. During shooting, he left the film, paving the way for the skyscraping Kevin Peter Hall to come in and play the role. The final step in removing Van Damme was when a last minute design alteration, changing the Predator from a strange insectoid to the rasta-alien we all know and fear, wiping all trace of him from the film.
