Kate Winslet, who at 40 is well poised to be her generation's Meryl Streep, is nominated for her performance in Steve Jobs, and has been singing on screen ever since her film debut. You can see her talent all the way back in Heavenly Creatures, when she belts out an operatic tune as the backdrop to a fantasy where she and her best friend/lover are accepted by her parents and allowed to sail off together rather than be separated. She also shows off her skills in Sense and Sensibility, which exists in a Jane Austen universe where apparently every young lady can both play the piano and has a pleasant singing voice. But the video featured here is where her singing transcends the screen and actually makes waves in the music world. "What If" was Winslet's debut single back in 2001, created for an animated version of A Christmas Carol. The song hit a chord with Christmas enthusiasts, and ended up peaking at number 6 on the UK Singles charts. Not bad, Winslet. You may be in line for an EGOT after all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vId_4r925o
