8 Possession Horror Movies That Broke All The Rules
2. The Cleansing Hour
So many movies get the world of social media influencers completely wrong, to the point where you can tell they're written by old geezers who have no idea what Tik-Tok is or how YouTube works.
Consequently, they're more cringey than they are entertaining, but The Cleansing Hour is one of the few that really delivers a bona-fide horror story set in that world.
It centres around The Cleansing Hour itself, a livestream show hosted by supposed priest Max. Every week, Max will stream his latest exorcism, ridding the world of another demon. In exchange, if you want to, the audience can shoot him a like, share, subscribe and even buy some branded holy water for good measure.
Of course the whole thing is a grift, and Max himself is an arrogant !*$% coasting off the production prowess of his team. That all changes when a real demon possesses one of the actors though, and live on stream threatens to kill the entire production if Max can't exorcise it for real.
It's a completely daft premise, but with the right amount of comedy and genuine scares - alongside a killer ending I won't spoil here - it delivers a thoroughly original possession story.
