8 Really Stupid Plans Comic Book Movie Villains Tried

7. The World's Smartest Criminal Is Basically An Idiot - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Lex Luthor Superman Returns
Warner Bros.

The Plan: Lex's plot is confusing, convoluted and hard to boil down, and he has several plates spinning.

Ultimately, he wants to end Superman's godlike status by blaming the Africa shootings on him, using Kryptonite to hurt him, using Zod's body to build Doomsday, and having Batman - a mere man - kill him.

Why It's Stupid: There are so many things wrong with his scheme and so much that relies on luck, coincidence or the ignorance of others, so Lex is either a genius with Sherlock-level deductive powers or... his plan is stupid.

First off, blaming the Africa shootings on Supes; why would people believe Superman uses bullets? Lex bribes an African to give false testimony, but still... bullet wounds!

Lex then detonates a bomb at the court hearing, in another attempt to implicate Superman. But if the Man Of Steel had heard the bomb, or stopped it? Lex would've ended up in jail, but again, luck prevailed.

We also see him attempting to create a weapon out of Kryptonite, but Batman steals that Kryptonite from him. Was that part of Lex's plan? He didn't seem too bothered that it had been stolen, so why all the fuss over it in the first place?

Meanwhile, he's trying to turn Clark against Batman by having Batman's branded victims killed in jail, but then completely negates all this effort by kidnapping Clark's mother and forcing the two heroes to fight. Why spend all that time creating a conflict - why not just kidnap Martha right away?

There's also the small issue of Doomsday, and what the hell Lex planned to do if he survived - the entire planet would be in jeopardy.

We could go on here, but overall, Lex's plan relies largely on events he has no control over, and it's completely implausible things played out like they did.
