8 Reasons Why Frozen Is The Best Disney Film In A Generation

4. Brilliant Side Characters

One of the things that Disney films used to do well was to have memorable side characters €“ like Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki and of course all three Hyenas from The Lion King. Frozen returns to this with a decent sized ensemble of characters. These of course include the memorable trolls, but I'm predominantly talking Oaken, The Duke of Weselton and we mustn't forget the very well animated Sven. Sven is a reindeer €“ and I must point out, a non-speaking reindeer. This means all his expressions and actions must be portrayed through body language, giving the animators a much tougher job. They certainly rose to the challenge and manage to give a reindeer a complete personality that's hard not to love. This was expressed through the advertising for the film where Sven was included far more prominently in the film posters than Kristoff, despite the former being the male lead. We'll get onto Olaf in a moment, but needless to say the relationship between him and Sven is brilliant throughout, ending with a classic prank by the reindeer right at the end. The jokes regarding how to pronounce Weselton (sometimes as Weasletown) might be predictable, but they were certainly enjoyable and Alan Tudyk's voice work as the Duke made it all worthwhile.

I'm a pop culture addict. Television, cinema, comics, games - you name it, and I've done it. Or at least read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia.
