1. Star Wars Might Be Beyond Saving
It's safe to say that we're
all going to be seeing Star Wars Episode VII, and while the film is all but guaranteed to be a tremendous box office success, one can't help but think that the franchise might be beyond saving? Even if the film is terrible - which is extremely unlikely - Lucas' grip on his fanbase is so strong that, even in spite of themselves, they will continue to go see any film from the Star Wars franchise, despite how badly burned most were with the new trilogy of movies. Plus, in lieu of the dark, gritty tentpole movies that prove so popular these days, is there really a place for the most optimistic, classical blockbuster movies? When foreboding is fashionable and anything less is seen as sickeningly earnest, can this universe really still stay afloat? It's left to Arndt and, if the rumours prove false, Abrams, to find a way to keep a contemporary audience interested while not abandoning the spirit of the original material. Would you like to see Abrams bail? Do you think he will? Let us know in the comments below.
