8. There's No Serious Competition In The Near Future
2015 boasts one of the most exciting and jam-packed summer slates in recent memory, but that doesn't mean Jurassic World's won't benefit by a lack of serious competition, gifting it with some real box office longevity. Avengers: Age Of Ultron is wrapping up its theatrical run and Mad Max: Fury Road, while a success, is still R-rated and thus hardly competition for the big hitters. And even if Tomorrowland hadn't bombed to an embarrassing degree, it was released long enough ago that even as a major success it'd probably be on its way out by now. With no other major release accompanying Jurassic, it's got free reign at the box office, taking up the majority of multiplex screens. The coming weeks are also rather empty. Inside Out hits in many territories this week and Minions arrives in others a week later. These animated films are guaranteed box office smashes, but even with the widespread love of Pixar/jabbering yellow-things they shouldn't rob World of too much of its audience. The next big blockbuster that is a threat in that regard doesn't arrive until the start of July in the form of Terminator Genisys, and with the latest trailer trotting out James Cameron to give a thumbs up to the franchise reboot that's not shaping up to be a solid force. So Jurassic World could feasibly have a tight lock on the box office for the next month, until Marvel's next Ant-Man hits (and it could even keep going after that). That's biggest of all time performance right there.
