8 Reasons Mission Impossible Is Better Than James Bond

8. Mission Impossible Has Better Title Sequences

Watch the M:I 3 title sequence. Has a simple fuse ever looked so cool? Dig that weird drum corps-sounding version of Lalo Schifrin€™s immortal €œTheme from Mission: Impossible.€ Then in Ghost Protocol, we follow a lit fuse through a flash-forward montage of all the cool stuff we€™re in for. The sequence preserves the energy of the jailbreak opening scene, and builds anticipation to last a whole movie in less than two minutes. The Bond approach is more stylish. Each film treats the audience to an elegantly animated title sequence put to an original pop song. The problem is that they are so long (each over three minutes) that they totally derail any momentum established by an opening action scene. Casino Royale doesn€™t live up to the incredible promise of its titles, with their clever playing card motif. The song from Quantum of Solace, €œAnother Way to Die€ by Alicia Keys and Jack White, is pretty terrible. And while Adele€™s €œSkyfall€ is paired with the most breathtaking title sequence, the song itself gets annoying at its four-minute runtime.
