8 Reasons Upgrade Is The Year's Best Venom Movie
1. The Sequel Bait Is Actually Compelling
Venom's sequel-bait ending sees Eddie reunited with Venom before the obvious inference that he will be battling Carnage in the next movie. It's about as lazy and perfunctory a tease as anyone could come up with, and off the back of the movie itself, just not that inspiring.
Upgrade, then, ends in both disturbingly and highly intriguing fashion, teasing a ton of potential for a prospective sequel as STEM heads out into the big wide world. It's a shame that Upgrade did only modestly successful box office business, though, and according to Whannell himself, a sequel is sadly pretty unlikely.
Venom, on the other hand, is imminently due to pass the $400 million mark at the time of writing, despite having not an ounce of Upgrade's craftsmanship or ingenuity. What a shame.
