8 Reasons Why Christian Bale's Batman Is Better Than Ben Affleck's
8. The Far-Reaching Impact Of The Origin
It's an irritating cliche that each new Batman needs to get his well-covered origin retold with each new incarnation (at this point the only two actors to not get the treatment are Adam West and George Clooney), although directors do usually try and find a greater narrative reason for the likely studio-forced event.
Tim Burton made Joker the man behind the gun, Schumacher had Bruce get over it all, Nolan used it as the basis for the entire first movie and Snyder had it seed the resolution of the Bruce's future fight with Superman.
Actually, that alone should be a point in Bale's favour - that opening is not worth "Martha" - but it's what Nolan does with it that's really important; Bruce alone in the ally informs the plot of not just Batman Begins, but also runs through the trilogy, echoed in Rachel's death in The Dark Knight (something he explicitly reads onto it) and, as evidenced in the final Gordon exchange, is still Batman's motivation when it comes to flying off with the bomb.
