8 Reasons Why Fans Should Be Worried About Spider-Man Joining The MCU

8. It Will Only Be A Cameo

Fans are getting excited about Spider-Man appearing in Captain America: Civil War next year without taking into account the fact that it really might amount to nothing. Seeing as talks between Marvel and Sony had broken down last October, you have to imagine that the current iteration of the screenplay does not include the wall-crawler. As a result, it will obviously need to be retooled to accommodate him, but won't be rewritten for a major role. Marvel are smart though, so have likely had a scenario in place for Spider-Man in this movie for quite some time just in case. The leaked emails indicated that it would involve him meeting Captain America and Iron Man and getting his Iron Spider suit (that would certainly help the 2017 reboot stand out from the previous movies). There was no mention of him unmasking or switching sides, so there's a very good chance that Spidey simply won't play anywhere near the same sort of role in this movie as he did in Mark Millar's comic. Chances are that Spider-Man's cameo really won't be all that much bigger than Hawkeye's in Thor - possibly smaller depending on how much Marvel are willing to play around with their pre-existing plans for the movie - so reigning in expectations for what could ultimately end up being a glorified cameo would be smart. Of course, there's every chance he'll have a significant role in Avengers: Infinity War, but that's still pretty far off as of right now.
