It may sound strange, but the value of having Rob Zombie's Halloween remake be released over a decade ago cannot be understated.

The primary audience for horror films is the coveted eighteen to twenty-four demographic and even a bit below that, with teenagers comprising a huge part of the general horror audience. As a result, a great many of the younger members of the audience turning out for Halloween 2018 this weekend grew up being affected by the 2007 release of Rob Zombie's film in one way or another.

Whether it be that they saw Zombie's film or simply saw the marketing around it, this age group is perfectly positioned to have been exposed to Michael Myers through Zombie's film and now be coming back to see more in the new film.

Regardless of quality, (read: it's a bad movie) Zombie's first film left a mark on pop culture, inspiring a whole new wave of horror remakes in the late '00s. Enough of an impact to give a whole new generation of fans a reason to feel a sense of nostalgia about the property.
