8 Reasons Why Sony's Venom Movie Has Us Worried

5. MCU Will They/Won't They

It is genuinely unclear at this point where Venom will fall in terms of its relation to the larger MCU. This would not be such an issue at this point in the game if it were not so painfully obvious that even the creative forces behind the film were uncertain of such details as recently as this past summer.

While on the press tour for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal seemed to go back and forth in commenting on this film's relationship with the former. The end result is a ludicrously muddled story that leaves both parties looking a bit silly.

What seems to be true is that Venom is a character still owned by Sony specifically, and therefore, will only be appearing in Sony Marvel films. Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man is a character shared by Sony and Marvel, which leaves him in a delicate position.

If Venom is not a part of the larger MCU, this could lead to gargantuan plot holes in which Spider-Man may randomly forgets entire worlds and characters exist from one film to the next.

So really, when it comes to Spidey's role in this film, they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
