8 Reasons Why Sony's Venom Movie Has Us Worried

1. The Writers

As of now, the screenplay for Venom has three credited screenwriters; Scott Rosenberg, Kelly Marcel, and Jeff Pinkner. Amongst these writers are credits for such films as Amazing Spider-Man 2, Gone in 60 Seconds, The 5th Wave, Fifty Shades of Grey, and The Dark Tower.

While it is important to note that several films undergo script changes throughout production, it would be ignorant to pretend as though the script doesn't matter. It is the foundation of the film itself and very rarely can any amount of budget or time cope with the damage a poor script inflicts on a film.

Having said all of that, to call these writers' collective blockbuster credits disappointing is more than a bit of an understatement. These films are unfocused, poor adaptations of their source material, that resulted in middling to downright awful films. This is not to say that Venom will suffer the same fate but simply that their prior big-budget films have not been the strongest of works, which is especially worrying given just how difficult it will be to truly pull off a great Venom film.
