8 Reasons Why Spider-Man Joining The Avengers Is A Bad Idea (For Marvel)
6. Spidey's Rebooting Twice In A Decade
In the post-Avengers world, the entire superhero industry seems to be moving at break-neck speed. The Dark Trilogy wrapped up in 2012, and by 2013 a new take on Batman had already been announced. X-Men has gone through countless iterations since Bryan Singer first started this whole genre back in 2000. But those examples pale next to Spider-Man, who is gearing up for his third unique cinematic version in ten years. Oh sure, if Marvel are going to bring in Spider-Man then they need to reboot, but does it really need to be so soon that it's only a couple of years after the last? Contrary to popular belief, The Amazing Spider-Man didn't come into being because Spider-Man 3 was tat - it wasn't a box office bomb and was well received, so much so that Sony immediately had director Sam Raimi working on a sequel. It was only when Raimi couldn't make it work that a rushed attempt to try and retain the rights was instigated. At first the plan was to go small-scale, invoking Twilight for a more school-based, romance-heavy Spider-Man. That tact quickly went by the wayside and soon there were two incredibly expensive movies that just couldn't support themselves at the box office. So yeah, it's already a pretty dense development process. Why make it worse?
