8 Reasons Why The Terminator Franchise Is Dead

1. It's An Over-Crowded Sci-Fi/Fantasy Market

The new Star Wars trilogy and its various spin-offs; the resurgent Jurassic Park and Mad Max franchises; the Marvel and X-Men movies, essentially science fiction and fantasy by another name; Pixar's fantastical tales, and other animation from DreamWorks and Blue Sky Studios; numerous YA movies. These are just some of the big films showing up in a crowded 2015. Terminator Genisys came into a very competitive marketplace for science fiction/fantasy cinema, and lost. The film's level of success would have decided where exactly the Terminator movies now fit in in the blockbuster landscape; seeing as audiences largely stayed away, the future doesn't look rosy at all. Things are only set to become more difficult for any future Terminator films, as the number of big budget sci-fi/fantasy movies and their sequels continues to rocket. After two false starts breaking back into the game with Salvation and Genisys, the Terminator franchise is already lagging so far behind, it might never be able to catch up.
