8 Reasons You Should Be Excited For The Predator
6. Mixing Of Tones
There isn't any major director working today who is quite as gifted at mixing tones as Shane Black is.
His films frequently change lanes mid-stream, jumping from deadly and dangerous action sequences to sight-gag visual humor in the blink of an eye. Films such as The Nice Guys, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, or even Iron Man 3 showcase his unique ability to mix-and-match, all while delivering a final product that is remarkably cohesive.
Which is why when news hit the web a few months back that The Predator was going to be a lot funnier than many might be expecting, it wasn't something for fans to fret over, it was something to celebrate. Black is a funny dude, whose sharp writing and subversion of genre tropes have always been one of his strong suits. To ignore that for this film would have been a huge mistake.
And it's also important to remember that the original Predator doesn't shy away from humor either. There's the testosterone-fueled rivalry between Dutch and Dillon, Dutch's peak-Arnold one-liners like 'Stick around', and Shane Black's own character, Hawkins, delivering some truly unsettling jokes about his girlfriend's anatomy.
So when Black promises that the film will, 'just stuff as much genre into one pack as we can, so you can literally unpack different facets of the movie, which is sort of a stew that represents, to us, the genre movie that we would’ve loved to see when we were coming up', this is something to be very excited about.
