6. Black Widow (Avengers: Endgame)

Sure, she's got her own solo movie on the way next year, but the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe needs Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow to stay dead.

That 2020 Black Widow picture is a prequel (as far as we know), with the action taking place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. In terms of the 'present day' of the MCU, it's absolutely vital that Natasha remains deceased.

What made Avengers: Endgame such a special, emotional rollercoaster of a film, is the very real consequence of what Earth's Mightiest Heroes had to endure in order to reverse Thanos' snap.

That eventual victory over the Mad Titan came at a cost, and said victory was all that more heartfelt, monumental, and outright tear-jerking because of the tragic, unavoidable life that had to be lost for the greater good.

There's also the small matter of Natasha had to die in order to release the Soul Stone. If that death is reversed, that throws up all manner of questions about the Soul Stone, about the Infinity Gauntlet, and about why any of Endgame really mattered.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic.
