8 Recently Teased Sequels That Probably Won't Happen
3. Rush Hour 4
Few among us could have predicted when the original Rush Hour arrived in 1998 that we'd still be talking about it 20 years later. The action comedy series finally made Jackie Chan a superstar in the west, and managed to secure ridiculous fees for both him and co-star Chris Tucker on the sequels that followed in 2001 and 2007.
While the Rush Hour trilogy made $850 million at the global box office, for a long time it looked like that would be the end of it. This seemed particularly clear when, to the bemusement of most, a Rush Hour TV series was launched in 2016, although it didn't get beyond one season.
Still, talk of Rush Hour 4 has popped up intermittently over the years; and then, in October 2017, Jackie Chan announced that the film was indeed in the works with a script that was only awaiting the go-ahead from Chris Tucker.
However, there's one other key player in the Rush Hour series, and that's director Brett Ratner, who has called the shots on all three to date. Not long after Chan's announcement, Ratner was among the first prominent Hollywood figures to face multiple allegations of rape and sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
This would, at present, seem to have put an end to Ratner's career, and casts serious doubts over whether another Rush Hour should be on anyone's agenda.
