8. Enhanced Choreography
I mean absolutely no offense to the work of choreographing lightsaber duels in the original trilogy but let's face itit was pretty much Kendo fights between two creaking robots. While the pace of the duels increased somewhat from film to film, even the climactic battle of Return of the Jedi would be hard to pass today with the new high bar set by the swift and smooth movements of Darth Maul and Obi-Wan. This is in no way stating that the classics are bad. I am just happy to see how the new films advanced with newer generations of film, creating more intense duels. It's pleasing to the eye and spikes the imagination in a way that we wish we could be Jedi Masters. Simply, it's just cool. It provides us with the great action we want to see from a sci-fi flick without relying on bland laser blasting and, in a world of CGI, not very effective space battles. The choreography of lightsaber duels in the prequel trilogy made for a level of epic that was specific to Star Wars, giving us some moments that stood out amidst the sub-par direction of the films from '99 to '05.
