5. Mace Windu

At first glance the purple lightsaber was off-putting to some, I'm sure. But then we realized the man holding itSamuel L. Jackson, one of geek-culture's walking prophets. Jackson basically plugged his own promotion to be a part of the new Star Wars trilogy, and thankfully George Lucas made one proper choice and said "okay". Bringing the badass attitude that I am sure has its own insurance plan, symbolizing SLJ as the man he is, Jackson guaranteed us a strong and powerful balance to young Anakin's whiny, childish antics. Showing respect for both the lore of and the fans of Star Wars, Jackson made sure to give us something that neither insulted the audience or the films, but only contributed to the entertainment and mythological value of SW. The character of Mace Windu was wise and intelligent. At times it seemed Windu may have had better foresight (compliments of the Force) than Yoda in various matters. Leading with a no bull-s*** attitude, Windu disapproved coldly of young Anakin's training from the very beginning, giving us that "I told you so" moment in Revenge of the Sith. This too, was another scene we can thank SLJ for. Jackson wanted to make sure that Windu would not be "going out like a punk", and Mace Windu certainly did not. From introduction to Jango Fett decapitation through to his blockbuster death, the mental and physical strength as one of the galaxy's foremost fighter was shown throughout. Clearly, the prequels' Mace Windu is someone we can certainly be thankful for.
