8 Ridiculous Coincidences That Made For Happy Movie Endings

1. The Whole Movie - John Q

Taking the top-spot, and perhaps the most obscure film on the list, this is one that will have you genuinely face-palming during the final act. John Q is the story of a working-class dad, John (Denzel Washington), who takes an emergency room hostage to push through a heart transplant for his dying son. Time drags on while he sits and waits, but in the end he decides that the only choice left to save his boy is to kill himself and donate his heart. From then until the closing credits, it is nothing but a tidal wave of coincidences. The car crash victim from the beginning of the film turns out to be an organ donor. Fantastic! She's also a match in terms of blood type. Great, her heart will be compatible. But will it get to the hospital in time? Of course it does! Right before Denzel pulls the trigger and blows his brains all over the emergency room floor. No doubt it is suspenseful, but convenience after convenience piles up to form a giant mountain of Hollywood cheese. Can you name any more coincidences in cinema? Did things tie up a little too neatly for your taste? Let me know in the comments below.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
