8 Ridiculous Coincidences That Made For Happy Movie Endings

2. The Cure Is Discovered At The Last Possible Moment - I Am Legend

From shoddy CGI to Alice Braga not knowing who Bob Marley is (seriously), I Am Legend is weighed down by a string of problems - but a strong central performance from one half of Hollywood's most irritating father-son double-act (and his dog) saves some face. Until the closing scenes, that is. Taking Robert Matheson's classic novel of the same name, Francis Lawrence manages to misshape and deconstruct a meditative and allegoric finale and replace it with a big ol' helping of sacrificial crap. Cornered in his laboratory by a horde of the infected, Neville's test subject shows a positive reaction to his serum and reverts to a human-like state. What timing! Coincidental, to say the least, that the cure should surface just as vampires (or Darkseekers) close in on every side, leaving just enough time for Neville to extract the blood; hand it to Anna; smuggle them into a coal chute; and blow everyone else to hell with a grenade. Humanity is saved but we don't care - we're still hung up over that dog.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
