8 Ridiculous Movie Title Changes

6. Captain America: The First Avenger

After overuse by Jerry Bruckheimer, the colon is now the king of the blockbuster title. It logically avoids having the dreaded €˜2€™ appearing when the sequel rolls around and gives a chance to ease the audience into key plot points. It also means making title changes is incredibly easy. Because America isn€™t the most popular country in the world, the first part was dropped in Russia, Ukraine and South Korea, leaving the intriguing title The First Avenger. Obviously Captain America won€™t be as culturally significant in these regions as he is in the western world, but you can€™t help but wonder what happened once the film started and patriotism kicked in. If using America to promote a film was box office poison, having a film entirely about a guy called Captain America wouldn't go down well. Marvel probably didn€™t care €“ if people had got that far, they'd already got their money. This isn€™t the only appearance of Marvel on this list, but this one at least makes some form of sense.
