8 Ridiculously Awesome Movie Crossovers (That Could Actually Happen)
6. Alien Vs. Avatar
James Cameron is currently slaving away at making three Avatar sequels, despite every single person on the internet wishing he'd not. They'll no doubt refine his method for making multi-billion dollar hits without offering up anything new storywise, but imagine how much cooler it would be if, instead of more tree-hugging fairy stuff, xenomorphs crashed the party and the director went back to his action roots? It's certainly possible - 20th Century Fox hold the rights to both series - and, unlike Alien Vs. Predator, which served to only titillate people too young to have seen the originals, this crossover has the opportunity to offer some substance (remember when action movies had vague subtext). Aren't corporations evil? Strip away their respective Vietnam in space or the Pocahontas in space facades and that's the overbearing idea behind Aliens and Avatar. So it's not too hard to see how a movie where Jake Sully and his much more interesting Pandoran buddies come up against the apex predator would have some purpose overpowering the B-Movie idea. Some background could be given RDA's evilness and the Alien franchise could finally realise its third act of Weyland-Yutani getting their hands on the creatures (something that'll never happen under the direction of an Engineer-obsessed Ridley Scott). Sure, it's a somewhat hokey way to do something Alien 3 should (and was originally going to) have done, but if it saves the world from more bland stand-alone entries in either series there's no complaints here. The most geek-tastic element of all this, however, is what it could lead to - with the rights to The Terminator set to revert to their creator in 2019, this could pave the way for a three-way mash-up of the director's trifecta of sci-fi hits.
