8 Sci-Fi Clichés That Need To Calm Down

8. Overly-Literal Robots

It was kinda sweet when Data did it, and Drax gets a pass because he's not a robot, but if Siri can give you sass, a super-advanced AI of the future will probably understand what you mean when you tell them to go stick their head up their ass.

This trope is generally an extension of the Overly Literal Plot Device ("Let her go!", "Okay then" *drops damsel in distress off a building*) and is pretty much the sci-fi version of your teacher crowing "I don't know, canyou?" when you ask to go to the bathroom.

Do you mean to tell me that the robot that has enough computing power to calculate every outcome of their evil takeover of the world (or whatever)doesn't know that there is more than one meaning to "Well, that's just fantastic"?
