8 Science Fiction Movies Ruined By Their Twists

5. Ender's Game

Another science fiction movie suffering at the hands of adaptation, Gavin Hood's reworking of Ender's Game from novel to screen is one that has its flaws. Telling the tale of children conditioned to fight a war with hostile aliens, the Formics, Ender is the gifted individual that seems to be Earth's next hope at defeating the opposition, but he first must undergo rigorous training to get there.

The twist of Ender's Game is actually an entirely effective one, revealing that a simulation game that Ender was subjected to in a training program was actually a lie, and his precise, military actions have resulted in the unwilling genocide of an entire race at the hands of his manipulative superiors.

It's only when ANOTHER twist is thrown in that Ender's Game takes it too far, trying to straddle two endings in one that would be better suited to a series rather than a rushed final thought to be thrown in. Discovering one alien left alive that is 'very sorry' for doing loads of murder, Ender takes an egg and speeds off into space to create a new colony.

It's all a bit much to process, with one thing after another taking away the true gravity of Ender's final actions.
