8 Shocking Horror Movie Monsters With Surprising Powers
4. Mirrors - Weaponising Your Reflection
When Mirrors first came out I was absolutely horrified with the concept of it, and ever since the rippy jaw scene (you know the one) I’ve never been able to look at a mirror without a hint of suspicion ever again.
The mirrors themselves aren’t the monsters in this movie, rather they’re the thing that contains a vicious demon. The demon is able to attack those who look into the mirror, embodying their reflection and self-inflicting injuries that in turn appear on the looker’s own body.
It’s quite a cool and unique idea that certainly shocked audiences, it’s not a power you would usually expect from a demon - too niche. Maybe that’s why they moved away from demons in the sequel to focus on a vengeful spirit trapped in the mirror realm.
The things people suffer from their reflection in the Mirrors films range from slit throats to eating glass shards, to decapitation. There’s something uniquely horrid about not being able to control your own reflection - seeing yourself move but knowing you’re not doing it is very uncanny. The films aren’t cinema at its finest, but we have to admit it’s a cool idea.
