8 Smartest Decisions Made By Saw Characters

5. Brad And Ryan Turn On Dina (Saw 3D)

One of the most frustrating things about horror movies is when the lead characters split up for no good reason, only for them to be picked off one-by-one by a masked, knife-wielding maniac. Why don't they just stick together instead? After all, who stands a better chance of winning? One burly serial killer against one feeble teenager, or one burly serial killer against ten feeble teenagers?

As the extremely cheesy saying goes 'teamwork makes the dream work', and the opening of Saw 3D demonstrates just how true this is, with Brad and Ryan ensuring their survival by actually working together.

At the start of the movie, both men find themselves in a Jigsaw trap alongside their mutual lover, Dina, who has basically been playing them both. The trap is simple: Brad and Ryan can push saw blades towards each other so that one of them will die, or, they can let Dina be killed by a saw blade instead.

Initially, Brad and Ryan try to kill each other, while Dina spurs them on by declaring her love for whoever seems to be winning. However, Brad and Ryan soon realise that Dina is a liar and a cheat trying to get either of them killed, and decide that she isn't worth either of their lives. In a smart move, they agree that she should be the one to die.

Ridding themselves of a toxic relationship, and saving both their lives? Obviously this wasn't a smart move from Dina's point of view, but it certainly was for the two blokes!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
