8 Surprising Movie Villain Turns You Never Saw Coming

2. Amy - Gone Girl

Gone Girl
20th Century Fox

David Fincher's Gone Girl is all about the disappearance of Amy Dunne, who vanishes from her home on the fifth anniversary of her and her husband Nick's wedding. As the media gets involved and suspicion starts to swirl, it appears as though Nick is the prime suspect, though he might be getting framed by a third party. At the very least, nobody really expects the culprit to be Amy herself.

However, a mid-movie twist reveals that she was actually the mastermind behind the whole thing, wanting to get revenge on her husband for the breakdown of their marriage. More than that, though, it turns out that Amy is a bona-fide psychopath, quick to murder, blackmail and deceive people into getting her own way.

The whole image of who she presents to the people around her is simply a ruse, a character hiding the malicious reality underneath. It works, too, as audiences fall for her tricks like everyone else, only to have the rug pulled from under them when it's revealed she orchestrated the entire thing.
