8 Things J.J. Abrams Doesn’t Want You To Know About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

5. Harrison Ford's Injury Almost Messed Up Production (And Reveals The Importance Of Han's Role)

Like a carefully executed heist, the last thing you want to happen if you're making a secretive, highly anticipated movie is to have the authorities called. So Harrison Ford injuring his leg on the set of The Force Awakens was no doubt a major headache for those in charge of publicity - the press went absolutely crazy over less than a line of information, mainly because "a seventy year old has hurt himself" was the only non-drone word to come out of the set. Initially people just took this as proof that the Millennium Falcon was in the movie, but tracing the event and its aftermath reveals a lot more about the film than that incredibly obvious snippet. You see, although the production was very keen to down-play how big a deal this all was, simple facts show it was one of The Force Awakens most precarious moments. Filming was stopped for two weeks and Ford was back on set long before he was fully recovered to film above the waist shots, which reveals something pretty essential; Han Solo is incredibly important to the film (or at least has a lot of screen-time) and that injury, which most involved have tried to brush off in interviews, could have been pretty disastrous to the movie.
