The believability of a viral infection proving to be problematic in any comic book universe is questionable. With so many genius minds on show, it would likely be nipped in the bud very early. But there are other ways that such an epidemic could spread - ways that would be harder to stop - and one of those ways is magic. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe in particular, magic is a new concept. Doctor Strange will be the first Earth-based character to demonstrate any magical ability - and even he will be a novice. In a world where magic becomes public knowledge for the first time, lots of people will try it and end up royally f**king it up! Geniuses like Tony Stark and Bruce Banner would be helpless to stop any consequences of a magical f**k-up - and that could result in the rise of the Marvel Zombies. Imagine a spell gone wrong causing the world's corpses to rise (or even an accomplished evil sorcerer raising the dead on purpose). The Avengers would be forced into action to battle them - and that would be brilliant.
