8 Things You Didn't Know About Mads Mikkelsen
5. The French Government Appointed Him A Knight
While most great actors are decorated through Oscars, BAFTAs and other prestigious drama awards, Mikkelsen can boast an accolade which is fairly unique.
In April 2016, Mikkelsen and Danish film director Thomas Vinterberg were named “Chevaliers” (Knights) of the prestigious Order of Arts and Letters. At a ceremony at the Embassy of France, the pair were bestowed the order's insignia by the French Ambassador Francois Zimeray in the form of a beautiful green cross medal.
At the ceremony, Mikkelsen credited the film industry in France as significantly boosting his career, stating that “the turning point” was at Cannes in 2012 when he received the Best Actor Award for Thomas Vinterbeg's film The Hunt.
