8 Times Audiences Were Blamed For Movies That Failed

4. The Creators Of Jennifer's Body Are Really Mad You Didn't Go And See It

Jennifer's Body has gathered something of a following in the decade since it's been released. It can't be described as a cult classic, but it is one of those movies that has somehow stuck around in the pop-culture bubble, stubbornly refusing to fade into obscurity.

That being said, it didn't exactly set the box-office on fire back in September 2009. Budgeted at $16 million, it only just scraped past $31 million overall, and as a result, will not have been profitable for the studio. It also reviewed quite poorly, which didn't help it find an audience.

Late last year, director Karyn Kusama and screenwriter Diablo Cody discussed the movie's failure in an interview with Buzzfeed News, giving some insight into why they thought it didn't perform - and Cody in particular was none too pleased with 2009's movie-going crowds:

“People constantly talk about how underrated it is now, and I’m like, 'Why didn’t anybody go see it at the time?' I’m salty... I could have made more movies like Jennifer’s Body if people had actually f***ing gone or had been positive about it.”

On top of singling out general moviegoers, the filmmakers also took shots at the movie's ad campaign. Thanks to a heavy emphasis on images of a scantily-clad Megan Fox, they noted that it was marketed solely towards men, when they had in fact made the film for teenage girls.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
