On more than one occasion this year, Tom Hardy has shut down journalists to make light of the inappropriateness of their questions.

At the Legend press conference during the Toronto Film Festival, he was questioned about film stars' sexualities, which he decoded as a question about his own sexuality before shutting it down. Why this is here: When someone tries to pry into a film star's private life, the star is well within their right to ask “why?” as Tom Hardy did.

It's a good question. Why is it news whether a star is sexually attracted to men or women? In a separate Entertainment Weekly interview, Hardy explained that he is happy to talk about his sexuality but at the right time and in the proper place. Hardy – who has made it clear on several occasions that he is straight – said that being asked in a room full of people was 'inelegant' and felt the reporter was trying to get a reaction that would become a discussion topic.

Most importantly of all, he explained that LGBT shouldn't feel like they are being pointed out. His put down may get reporters to think twice before probing into people's sexuality.
