8 Times Film Stars Took On Social 'Norms' On Sexuality

5. Julianne Moore And Annette Bening In The Kids Are All Right

Julianne Moore and Annette Bening play a married lesbian couple, raising their two children that they conceived through the same sperm donor in Lisa Cholodenko's The Kids Are All Right.

The comedydrama film covers a big range of subjects – there's the portrait of an American family but with two mothers and no father, the children's curiosity about their biological father and adultery, to name a few.

The Kids Are All Right basically turns to audiences and says “yeah, these kids have two mothers. What of it?” It's an important statement to make because, for some reason, some people still can't deal with the idea of gay couples raising children. In this film, Bening and Moore excellently play two very caring mothers as well as heart-warming lovers. As for their on-screen children, Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska, are smart, well-adjusted and have all the traits that a stereotypical parent would want in a child.

And they deeply value both of their mothers.
