8 Times Hollywood Didn't Care What You Think

4. Cutting AWAY From Godzilla's First Fight

Sometimes subversion can be fun. It can be memorable, talked about for decades and ultimately, worthwhile. Just look at Luke Skywalker losing to Darth Vader, or the end of Infinity War.

Where "We see you wanting one thing, so here's the other!" goes sideways, is the likes of 2014's Godzilla, where Gareth Edwards, for some unknown reason, really didn't want to actually shoot a Godzilla film.

Case in point? The airport scene. We'd seen the towering MUTO beast laying waste to the population as the sheer explosive devastation of this creature tore through various airplanes. We were waiting for the literal King of the Monsters to save the day.

Suddenly his shopping centre-sized foot plants the frame, and it's ON.

Godzilla stands there with a "I got this" grin. He roars and... it cuts.

We cut away to a child on a sofa, as the camera watches him watch the fight instead. Is Edwards trying to say we're all children for wanting to watch such a thing? I'd agree it's clearly yes, but... why take the job if you have utter disdain for the fanbase?
